The Berlin Airlift was a remarkable story of ingenuity and heroism. In response to a Soviet blockade, Britain and its allies fuelled Berlin by air. The operation involved over 500,000 tons of cargo and lasted almost a year. As a result, 39 British airmen sadly lost their lives.
