What had been a disappointing 2025 season for the South Carolina baseball program ended on Tuesday night. The Gamecocks’ postseason lasted just one game, as they fell 11-3 to Florida in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
In the second game of South Carolina’s early-May series against Florida, the Gamecocks brought the tying run to the plate with no outs in the bottom of the seventh. USC ended the inning without another hit. And Florida responded by embarrassing the Gamecocks, scoring 16 runs in the final two innings.
Paul Mainieri will be retained as South Carolina’s head baseball coach, a university source told The State on Wednesday. The news comes after the Gamecocks’ 2025 season wrapped up with an 11-3 loss to Florida on Tuesday in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
