Police said 86 anti-ICE protesters were charged on Tuesday, while city officials vowed not to let the Big Apple get out of control like LA.
At a news conference held June 9, NYC mayor Adams and NYPD commissioner Tisch promised safety to protesters, New Yorkers.
“Portland has not requested and does not require the intervention of the National Guard,” Wilson said in the statement. He noted that National Guard members and U.S. Marines deployed to Los Angeles under the order of helping ICE and protest management have only inflamed tensions in that city.
Thousands of people nationwide have shown up at protests and rallies opposing ICE raids as unrest grows in response to the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
