Jared Jones will have surgery on his right forearm/elbow complex on Tuesday, according to Pittsburgh Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk.

Pirates fans received some ominous news today when John Perrotto of Pittsburgh Baseball Now reported that right-hander Jared Jones was “likely” to undergo Tommy John surgery.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are off to another tough start, and they got even more bad news about the 23-year-old starter Jared Jones' health. Jones was trying to rehab from an elbow sprain.

The Pittsburgh Pirates could be without a key starter for the rest of the 2025 season after he suffered an injury setback.

After a 1-0 loss in a Paul Skenes start on Sunday, they learned that a different pitcher will probably need Tommy John surgery. Pittsburgh Baseball Now beat writer John Perrotto reported that two of his sources have informed him that 23-year old right-hander Jared Jones will need that reconstructive surgery on his throwing elbow.
