Apps that open files In macOS, you can change what app opens a specific file type from the file itself. Right-click a file that you want to change the default app that opens, and select Get Info.

You can make Windows File Explorer open to This PC, instead of Quick Access in Windows 11/10, using GPO< File Explorer Options or REGEDIT.

Click Open. If the app that you want to use to open the file type is greyed out, it's because macOS doesn't think there's a valid association between the two.
