After just two swings in the Sunday’s final round of the British Open, it already seemed close to over. After two holes, it definitely felt over. After four holes, engraver Garry Harvey could start etching the name of Scottie Scheffler into the claret jug, although he waited until near the end of the inevitable conclusion.

Royal Portrush played gentler on Sunday than it had at many points throughout the week, with the field averaging just over 69. When pressure peaks and the world's best throw everything at him, Scheffler doesn't just win — he pulls away.

Scheffler not only won his second major this year — and fourth in the last three years — he captured the third leg of the career Grand Slam, now missing only the U.S. Open.

Scheffler led by four strokes into Sunday after rounds of 68-64-67 in Northern Ireland, and he closed in 3-under 68 to earn his fourth career major title. Scheffler, 29, earned his first PGA Championship title at Quail Hollow earlier this year and also holds two Masters titles to his credit.

If the performance was reminiscent of Tiger Woods, consider that Scheffler became the first to win the PGA and British Open in the same year since Woods did it in 2005 and became just the second reigning top-ranked player in the world to win the Open as well, which Woods did three times.
