Microsoft plans to sell Minecraft Education Edition as a subscription service to schools, starting in September, for between $1 and $5 per user per month. A free trial version is available now.

Microsoft is bringing the Bedrock version of Minecraft to ChromeOS. Chromebook users will no longer have to run the special education edition.

Mojang, the Microsoft-owned maker of the game, announced Thursday that an early version of the new Minecraft: Education Edition will be free for educators until the official release in September.
