A Detroit News tie to zoo's train The zoo's 2.5-mile miniature railroad was created with a $20,000 donation from William E. Scripps, son of James E. Scripps and president of The Detroit News.

Things kick off on Tuesday, where the zoo will open an hour early at 8 a.m. with free admission for the first 95 non-member guests and a free one-way train ride for the first 995 guests.
