Google is laying out its vision for Project Astra to one day power a version of Gemini that can act as a "universal AI assistant."

At Google I/O 2025, Project Astra showed off next-gen AI skills. In the demo, the AI-powered tool was able to read screens to make calls and remember context shared earlier

In a new demo, Google showed how an updated version of Project Astra in the Gemini app could help a user fix their mountain bike. Gemini was able to parse through a user manual, search the web, and call a bike shop all at the same time through low latency voice interactions.

Google showed off quite a few things revolving around AI at Google I/O 2025, and one of those things was the new argentic capabilities it’s been working on for its Project Astra technology. This is likely going to be something that we see come to Gemini Live at some point down the line.
