Liverpool are chasing a huge summer deal for Bayer Leverkusen's £126million-rated attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and nobody knows the Germany star better than Xabi Alonso

Liverpool have spared no expense in their agreement with Florian Wirtz after details began to filter through, and when the Reds expect to seal the deal with Bayer Leverkusen has also come to light.

Germany men’s national team coach Julian Nagelsmann weighed in on Friday’s bombshell news that superstar attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz had rejected a move to Germany Rekordmeister Bayern Munich in favor of Premier League giants Liverpool FC.

It is not as if Bayern Munich has always landed its top transfer targets, but losing out to Liverpool FC on Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz seems to have stung everyone at the club a bit. Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer admitted that Max Eberl told him that a deal for Wirtz was likely not happening.

Wirtz has been targeted by both clubs but is believed to favour Liverpool — although they would still need to agree a deal with Leverkusen.

The Magpies want £120million for Isak, and, according to GMS, Liverpool ‘have the financial clout to meet Newcastle’s demands’ for the striker, who was described as “world class” by Alan Shearer on BBC Sport in January 2025.

While, as is often the case, there were differing views at Bayern, Liverpool, on the other hand, outlined a highly professional and appealing plan for Wirtz, which matters the most to the player. He is set to become the new central figure in midfield at Liverpool as a playmaker, with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister behind him.
