In the weeks since the primary, several prominent donors who had been supportive of Cuomo pledged their support to Adams in the general election, including billionaire hedge-fund managers Dan Loeb and Bill Ackman, both of whom have become so entwined with the Adams operation that they have helped vet campaign hires.

Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to announce an independent run for NYC mayor after losing the primary to democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, joining incumbent Eric Adams

The state has expensed more than $20.5 million for the legal defense of Andrew Cuomo and several officials who worked in the executive chamber.

In response to the news, Mamdani’s campaign issued a statement, writing, “While Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams are tripping over themselves to cut backroom deals with billionaires and Republicans, Zohran Mamdani is focused on making this city more affordable for New Yorkers. That’s the choice this November.”
